Thanks to Captain Ged's comment that the "speed of the game increases as a function of time, not of your score" (http://frenzic.com/detail/?id=210), my own score improved bunches. I was stagnating for weeks until I stopped wasting time at the beginning of the game choosing exactly the right spot to drop a wedge. I'll add my own tips and tricks as I discover them.

Sigh, it happened when I was home sick, bored silly and not alert to the danger of overdosing on this little game. Oh, and thanks for your original post on general technique (http://frenzic.com/detail/?id=467). It's what got me started ...

I think I've (finally) grokked how to use the double points power-up (thanks to a close viewing of hop's technique and the visual guide to scoring). I'd forgotten that points accrue when you drop pieces of the pie, not just when you clear them. You can maximize the effect of the power-up by completing (and triggering) a near-constant stream of them in the background, while working quickly and placing as many pieces as possible, especially those with matching colors (which can be worth twelve points before you even include the clearing bonus).
